There are many types of extensions and loft conversions that can be carried out without the need to apply for planning permission.
Comprehensive information on the kinds of extensions you can build without planning permission can be found within the interactive guides on the Planning Portal.

Below you will find some brief information on the requirements for the typical projects we work on. You can also click on the images for further info.
Most often used to extend kitchen/dining areas and provide utility rooms.
This type of extension can often be carried out without planning permission. Up to 3m out on a semi-detached or terraced house and up to 4m out on a detached house.
Also often used to extend the existing kitchen area or to create a utility or office space. Most side extensions do not need planning permission as long as they are less than half the width of the existing house.
With the exception of a very few specific cases, most two storey side and rear extensions require planning permission.
We provide a complete planning permission service to deal with obtaining this permission.
Most loft conversion can be carried out without the need to apply for planning permission. On a typical property the loft can be converted and a dormer constructed to the rear which vastly improves the floor space available, all without planning permission.
If your planned garden room or outbuilding is less than 2.5m high you can generally construct this without planning permission.
If the garden room contains sleeping accomodation it may need permission.
Building regulations may also be required if the building has more than 15m2 floorspace.
Garage conversions do not normally need planning permission. This allows you to replace the garage door with a low height wall and window, convert the internal space so that it is thermally compliant with building regulations and create access from the house.
