This project adds a rear and side extension to improve the kitchen layout and introduce a dedicated utility room, while also enhancing the external patio area for better outdoor living.
This project in S7 demonstrates how a thoughtfully designed rear and side extension can make a significant difference to everyday living. The aim was to improve the functionality of the kitchen while also introducing a separate utility room—without compromising the character of the original home.

The extension has enabled a more efficient kitchen layout, improving circulation, storage, and workspace. Large roof windows above the new kitchen area flood the space with natural light, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment throughout the day. The addition of a dedicated utility room further supports the home’s organisation—providing a discrete area for laundry and storage, and helping to keep the main kitchen space clear and clutter-free.
Structural Improvements and a Cohesive Finish
With the original garage roof in poor condition, the new extension roof was designed to continue seamlessly across it, incorporating new rafters for improved structure and durability. This not only strengthened the overall build but also created a unified roofline that enhances the appearance of the rear elevation.

Materials and proportions were carefully selected to ensure the extension blends seamlessly with the original property. Matching brickwork, complementary roof tiles, and considered detailing ensure the new spaces feel like a natural continuation of the existing house—rather than an obvious addition.

Whole-Home Enhancements
In parallel with the extension works, the property underwent a number of additional upgrades to improve both energy performance and visual appeal. The old sliding doors at the rear were replaced with classic French doors, improving thermal efficiency while enhancing the connection to the garden. All existing windows were replaced with triple glazed units, significantly improving insulation and comfort throughout the year.
Externally, the rear garden was re-landscaped to include a more defined path and a new patio area, making better use of the outdoor space. At the front, a resin-bound driveway and a new electric garage door were installed—offering a modern, low-maintenance solution with strong kerb appeal.
